Where to ski within two hours of Mataró
La Molina and Masella (known together as Alp 2500) are the closest option, about 150 km away. Vallter 2000 and Núria are great for families with small children, with gentle slopes and a relaxed atmosphere. Andorra — Grandvalira and Pal-Arinsal — is about 200 km away and has the largest ski area of them all. And Font-Romeu, in French Cerdagne, is a quieter alternative just across the border.
Crossing into Andorra and France with the campervan
You can cross without any special paperwork, either into the Principality or into France: just carry the vehicle's documents, which should always live in the glovebox, and your driving licence.
As with any trip to Andorra, there's a duty-free allowance for purchases (tobacco, alcohol, perfume...) when you come back; if you plan on filling the boot, it's worth checking the current limit before you leave.
Getting the van ready for the cold: heating, chains and water
The parking heater runs with the engine off, so the van stays warm all night without draining the car battery or the noise of a running engine. Snow chains are compulsory on many Pyrenean and Andorran roads whenever the signage says so; carry them from November to April even if you never actually fit them.
And if it freezes overnight, drain the water tanks before bed: it saves you frozen pipes the next morning.
Where to spend the night at the foot of the piste
Some resorts — like La Molina — allow overnight parking for motorhomes and campervans outside peak season or in designated zones; always check the resort's rules before settling in. If you'd rather have a reliable spot all season, there are motorhome areas in Puigcerdà and Alp, just minutes by car from any of the Cerdanya slopes.
