The Pyrenees by campervan: 7 days of valleys and lakes
The Catalan Pyrenees are campervan country: linked valleys, stone villages, high-mountain lakes and a growing network of motorhome areas. This 7-day route climbs from Mataró through La Garrotxa's volcanic hills and crosses the range west to the Aran Valley — with the California's parking heater as your best friend at night.

Days 1–2 — La Garrotxa: volcanoes and beech woods (140 km)
First night in Olot or Santa Pau. The classic half-day walk from the Fageda d'en Jordà beech forest to the Santa Margarida volcano is worth every step; next morning, medieval Besalú and its bridge before heading up to the Cerdanya.
Days 3–4 — The Cerdanya valley (90 km)
The brightest valley in the Pyrenees. Base yourself in Puigcerdà or Bellver, and if you want a summit, the Puigpedrós hike from the Malniu refuge is one of Catalonia's most rewarding. End the day in the Dorres hot springs, 15 minutes into France.
Days 5–6 — Aigüestortes National Park (120 km)
Via La Seu d'Urgell and Sort to Espot, gateway to Aigüestortes and Sant Maurici lake. Local 4x4 taxis take you up to the lake; from there an easy path leads to the viewpoint under the twin Encantats peaks. Note: no overnighting inside the national park — sleep at the Espot area or Àneu valley campsites.
Day 7 — The Aran Valley and return (200 km)
Cross the spectacular Bonaigua pass (open year-round) to Vielha for an Aranese lunch, then an easy return — or stretch the trip one more night.
Frequently asked questions
Is it cold sleeping in the van in the mountains?+
The California has a parking heater that runs with the engine off — set it half an hour before bed and the van is toasty. Winter bedding is available as an extra.
How many kilometres is the route?+
About 700 km. With a 7-day rental we recommend the 200 km/day package so you never have to count.
